Disease diagnosed : Hairy caterpillar [Lymantria obfuscata]

A. Cultural pratices:

  1. Collection and destruction of egg masses which are available around 9 months (July to March next year on the tree trunk / scaffold branches of willow, poplar plants and hidden places (walls, stones, clod of soil etc.)

  2. Upkeep the vigour of plants by applying balanced dose of fertilzers and proper irrigation

  3. li>Since the larvae hide during the day on main trunk, in loose bark crevices, therefore, putting gunny burlap (dipped in Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 1 ml / litre of water) around the tree trunk attacts the larvae for hidding. The larvae trapped in burlap from April to June be collected and killed


B. Chemical application :

  1. Spray the hairy caterpilar infested trees with:-
  2. - Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 100 ml/100 litres of water OR

    - Quinalphos 25 EC @ 100 ml/100 litres of water
